Musings of an unhinged mind.

These little guys are alive at last, with their vibrant color and telling expressions.

They have been sprayed with a fixative that gives an interesting sheen to the fur...and heightens the illusion of 3D.

Oklahoma Red Fox     24x18"    Scratchboard Etching

Now a few days for it to cure, then framing and packing and they will be on their way to their home in Oklahoma.

It's always a pleasure for me to do the foxes.....

And now the fourth, and final face has appeared in the Red Fox commission:

He is relaxed with his chin on a rock...not a care in the world, just a moment in the sunshine.

Four different looks gives this group a good study in animal expressions. Now a few minor tweaks and it will be time to start adding some color! I can hardly wait!

See you soon with more.

The next face is done in the commissioned Red Fox portraits.....

This is the preliminary first scratches to show where the direction of the fur is going. The construction lines can still be seen and remind me where to put some of the lighter areas in the next go-round of scratching.

The next couple layers of scratching is done and except for color, this face is complete.

Note how relaxed and calm this fox looks compared to the other two that are on high alert. Capturing the different expressions on an animal's face is definitely one of my favorite things about doing wildlife.

One more to go!
