Musings of an unhinged mind.

Moose Adventures and Studio Time

Hi,

With all the snow here in the north country, about 60 miles from Canada and 5 miles from Idaho, my favorite pastime has become moose watching. Although I live in a moose wintering area the snow has not been deep enough to bring them down from the mountain, so traveling just a few miles north takes me to this wonderful gathering place, with lots of brushy browse that the moose love.

This cow display a beautiful face and the lighter coloring of all 5 of the moose in this group.....2 cows, 1 yearly calf, a young bull and a very large older bull that carefully stayed in the trees out of camera range.

With antlers that have not palmated yet, this young "bullwinkle" was still a very large animal and sports a somewhat darker coat than the cows, typical with bulls, though the moose around my house are much darker.

I'm sure a moose will find it's way onto my easel before long, and I will try to convey the immense size of these animals.

Another animal with impressive size has just been finished, and will now move off the easel onto the "drying wall".

This bull makes me smile as he was so obviously enjoying a nap in the warm afternoon fall sun, away from the cows and calves.

I hope the sun shines for you too, wherever you are.
