Hi Friends,

On a trip this year to find the wild mustangs in the Steens Mountain Wilderness of Oregon, some of the horses I found were not the Spanish Kigers, but pintos. 

Most every color was represented, palomino, bay, sorrel, roan, black pintos and some solid colors like buckskin and blue roan. 

Finding the horses in this vast country is not easy....and hiking is mandatory, over rough ground that consists of large clods of dirt interspersed with lots of lava rock and sagebrush, with the occasional juniper tree. Bunch grass that grows among the sagebrush is the main diet of these wild horses. 

A recent painting gives you a look at these gorgeous horses.

Tinted canvas with a freehand line sketch. 

The dark pinto colors are laid in.

Then the white....look closely and you can see the lavenders of shadows.

This weekend I am at the Celebration of Western and Wildlife Art Show in Puyallup, Washington at the fairgrounds. A really fun show with a gathering of quality artist from across the west. It runs Friday 3-10pm, Saturday 10am-10pm, Sunday 10am-4pm. The variety of art is truly amazing. Come out if you can.....and of course, stop by and say hi!
