Musings of an unhinged mind.

Go to the Edge

When I sat down today, it wasn't clear what would be the subject.

Then after a walk in snow covered woods, where no man-made sound could be heard, it became clear that the opposite of this serenity is fear.

This life we are living is built on fear in many instances. Fear of not getting that good grade, fear of not having enough insurance, fear of something happening to loved ones....the list could go on forever, but you get it.

Someone that addresses fear very well is Seth Godin....recently he published a book and put out an audio recording, both available here on his blog site.

Fear will hold us back from many things in our lives. Once a person establishes a comfortable little rut, there is a tendency to stay there. I know for myself when I'm getting too comfortable the warning sirens go off all over the place. Time to go to the edge.

"Come to the Edge he said.

They said: We are afraid.

Come to the edge, he said.

They came. He pushed them,

and they flew.

~Apollinaire

We all fear the unknown.....do it anyway.

It's up to you to write your story. Go ahead, try something you've always wanted to do. Don't worry about what anyone thinks. Their opinion of you is none of your business.

Don't look for perfection in what you try....you may not paint that masterpiece, or run that marathon, or look like a model when you drag your tired old body to the beach. Do it for your own pleasure. Do it because you have nothing to lose. Do it because you count.

Go to the edge. Jump. Fly.

Your work is beautiful I am from Barbados and I have just added oil paintings to my business. I am a jewelery designer, bag maker, hand paint cushion covers, make dolls, all types of craft from recycled items. My paitings were critiqued by an artist and he told me they were too flat and needed building up. I will be following your blog to learn from you. Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the comment....you sound busy! As you run a business selling your creations, pay attention to what sells the best. If the oil paintings don't bring in a good return, then perhaps they need work. Good luck!
